LEN CARNAGHI DRAKE GREEN WINGED TEAL DUCK DECOY HOLLOW SPECTACULAR CARVING/PAINT

Description

Up for auction is a spectacular Green-Winged Teal drake hollow-carved decoy made by the nationally recognized maker Len Carnaghi of Washington, Michigan, signed and dated 1984.  Take a close look at the photos on this one.  It is in mint condition.  The paint detail in every feather is just remarkable.  The multiple applied, raised feathers really bring this one to life. The head is turned to the left.  It’s no wonder why this maker’s work has been recognized for years as among the very best.  Carnaghi began carving in the late ’60’s under the tutelage of noted maker Nick Purdo. His work has won over 100 “Professional Class” blue ribbons and three Best-in-Shows. He was the Top Amateur Winner at the 1972 World Wildfowl Carving Championships. He is featured in Loy Harrell’s “Decoys: Sixty Living and Outstanding North American Decoy Carvers.”  There are two very small scuff marks on the back, other than that this looks like it did when it came off of Carnaghi’s bench.  This beautiful carving measures 9-1/2” long; 4-1/2″ wide; and 4-1/2″ tall.
