I just purchased this vintage Charles L. Gable Bob White quail wood carving from a local estate here in Central Virginia. The piece has a charming folk art quality showing a Bob White hen and roo perched on a driftwood branch. The birds are well executed with stylized head / body / wing carved features and glass eyes. The folk style hand painting is what sets this piece apart; rich color, fine detail and subtle shading throughout. The driftwood base measures 10 ½” long and 6 ¼” wide. The birds are EACH 6″ long, roughly 5″ high and 2 ½” wide. The base is signed in hand script “Ch L Gable 1976”. The piece is in excellent condition with no damage, the surfaces show a warm patina and no noted wear. This Charles Gable Bob White quail duo would make a fine addition to your collection of vintage Woodland fowl carvings / decoys or Americana folk art.
